I commute to Cambridge by train, and it's my favourite time of the day! It gives me time to complete Wordle, and continue my Spanish lessons on Duolingo. After a few weeks, I can confidently tell you 'Yo como manzanas'. I look forward to when I'm in a Spanish-speaking country, and I can tell the locals I eat apples. Hopefully by that time, there will be a marked improvement.
No two days are ever the same here in Central Cambridge, and in an everchanging role where the pace rarely slows, there’s always another call, conversation, or curveball waiting!
I arrive to the office just after 8am ready to begin the day. Though we don't start until 8:30, I like to be prepared for the day. Our Centre Manager, Holly, is usually in at a similar time to me. After a short catch-up about the evening before, we start our day.
My first job of the day, whilst the building is quiet, is preparing the meeting rooms. At Nine Hills Road, our meeting rooms are often busy. We have six meeting rooms on site, which can sit 4 attendees up to 26. Each of our meeting rooms have been named after a famous Cambridge Alumni to pay homage to the city we're based in.
After the meeting rooms are set up, it's back to reception to catch up on my emails, and I like to make sure I'm back at my desk to greet our members ahead of their day. My favourite part of my role is, without a doubt, building rapport, and getting to know the members in our building. I love being able to chat with members, and My morning isn't complete unless I've waved Rachel in, or caught up with Hilary on her way to the office. Being able to build a community here at Nine Hills Road has been important to me since my first day here.
Another perk of working at a busy centre, is being able to get my steps in. When I joined Mantle back in January, I led the 'Steps to Success' initiative which saw the Mantle Team battle it out to see who in the company could get the most steps in throughout the entire month of January. I was awarded 2nd place! By the time I have looped round the building, I am usually on around 5,000 steps before 9:30am. On my walk around the building, I help organise our kitchens for the day and check the breakout areas to make sure everything is ready for our members.
As a Client Services Coordinator, my day can go in any direction from here – I really meant 'no two days are ever the same'. I could host tours of the building, I could be doing Health and Safety Checks, I might be signing up new members or I could be working through Licence Agreements. A Licence Agreement is always exciting, as it means we are getting a new member at Nine Hills Road.
As I am based in Central Cambridge it means that I lots of opportunities to have a delicious lunch – the opportunities are endless. Once I have chosen my lunch, you will then find me either sat in our outdoor space with a book or I'll go and see Chloe at 95 Regent Street, Cambridge for lunch. I joke with our members that I need a commemorative statue in our outdoor space as I spend so much time outside. As I write this, we are renovating the space, so I'll soon have an even better spot to read!
Then, it's back to work. My afternoon is often made up of some of the aforementioned tasks, a bit more problem-solving, and a bit more chatting with the members! It's always a good day when my 'to-do' list is illegible and full of crossing out tasks.
At 5pm I say my goodbyes and head on home. My train journey is yet again filled with some more Spanish and people watching.
When I get home, I greet my sausage dog Odie with an obligatory cuddle and belly rub, before saying hi to my family. We have dinner together and then I head of to the gym. I have signed up to a half-marathon next year, so the training is in full swing!
When I get back, I shower, pick my outfit out for the next day (a hard, hard task), and settle into bed with my book and a mug of tea, ready for the next day.
