Thremhall Park Welcomes a different kind of community. A Step Toward Sustainability and Education

09112024 6

Our journey began with a visit from Tony at Plan Bee, an organisation dedicated to helping reverse the alarming decline in bee populations. Tony, whose mission is to establish healthy, thriving bee colonies and raise awareness about the vital role bees play in our environment, saw the potential of Thremhall Park as a perfect location to support a flourishing bee community

Why Bees?

The decline in bee populations has been a hot topic in environmental discussions for years, and it’s an issue that affects ecosystems, agriculture, and biodiversity across the globe. Bees are responsible for pollinating around one-third of the world’s food supply, and without them, the balance of nature would be severely disrupted. This is where organisations like Plan Bee come in.

Our Partnership with Plan Bee

When we decided to create a bee-friendly space at Thremhall Park, we knew we needed the expertise of professionals. Tony from Plan Bee
came to assess the location, offering his insight and recommendations for creating the best possible environment for our new colony.

We were impressed by Tony’s passion and knowledge, and therefore we were delighted to partner with him to introduce a fully managed beehive to our location. Their service includes regular hive inspections, maintenance, and support to ensure the colony remains healthy and thrives. It’s a comprehensive solution that allows us to focus on promoting sustainability while providing our bee residents with everything they need to thrive. Our team will be able to enjoy the hive, from a safe distance, when the weather is warmer because right now, the bees are staying warm for winter.

Building Corporate Social Responsibility Through Beekeeping

Beyond the environmental impact, our new bee colony also ties into our broader goal of enhancing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). By supporting the introduction of a bee colony, we’re contributing to the local ecosystem and helping raise awareness about the importance of pollinators in our food chain.

Our reason for beekeeping not only supports the survival of bees but also provides a unique opportunity to engage with our employees, visitors, and the broader community

The Benefits of Beekeeping at Thremhall Park

Having a bee colony at Thremhall Park offers numerous benefits, both for the environment and our community. Here are just a few:

Enhancing Local Biodiversity:
The bees will help pollinate the plants and flowers around our grounds, leading to healthier, more diverse plant life.

Educational Opportunities:
Whilst we are learning about our new residents, we’ll have the chance to share our knowledge with our staff, visitors, and members about the essential role bees play in our world, and how they can contribute to bee conservation.

Supporting Corporate Social Responsibility: Our beekeeping initiative allows Thremhall Park to contribute to a pressing environmental cause, enhancing our CSR efforts and showing our commitment to sustainability.

Honey Production: One of the most rewarding aspects of beekeeping is, of course, the honey! Once the colony settles in and begins producing, we look forward to harvesting between 20-25lbs of fresh honey from our very own bees, in the Spring and again in the Summer further supporting the circle of sustainability. We hope this will be available to purchase within The Coffee Shop. Watch this space!

Looking to the Future

We are excited to see how our new bee colony thrives at Thremhall Park. With the expert guidance of Plan Bee and our continued commitment to supporting biodiversity, we hope to contribute to reversing the decline in bee populations and foster a greater appreciation for these incredible creatures. We are immensely proud of our new buzzing members.

Stay tuned as we share more updates on our bee colony’s progress and our ongoing sustainability efforts. Together, we can all do our part in ensuring a future where bees continue to play their vital role in keeping our planet buzzing!
